The Blue Ridge Area Food Bank is seeking a full-time Warehouse Assistant (and occasional back-up driver) for our Winchester, VA warehouse. This role is essential to support the Food Bank’s mission by supporting the safe pick-up, delivery, receiving, and distribution of food products, while contributing to daily warehouse operations. This position is primarily a hands-on warehouse role (approximately 80–90% of time), including operating equipment such as forklifts and pallet jacks, safely lifting and moving products, and working in varying warehouse conditions.
The position will also serve as a back-up driver (approximately 10–20% of time) using mainly non-CDL vehicles (box trucks) to complete scheduled delivery routes as needed. In addition, this role maintains a clean, compliant, and warehouse audit-ready using established and/or applicable standards, as well as supports inventory management by tracking products and completing required documentation in the computer system.
Candidates must be willing and able to obtain and maintain a CDL Class B license and meet all DOT requirements, including drug and alcohol testing.
Required Job Qualifications:
- Experience operating warehouse equipment including forklifts, pallet jacks, and stand-up riders.
- Strong customer service and communication skills with the ability to work cooperatively with staff and volunteers, as well as independently.
- Ability to move, lift and carry objects up to 50 pounds in a safe manner.
- Ability to work in a warehouse environment and in adverse weather conditions including heat, cold, rain, and snow.
- Basic knowledge of food safety requirements.
- Basic computer skills with the ability to complete reports and maintain accurate records.
- Valid Virginia driver’s license with a safe driving record required[LS1].
- Delivery driving experience a plus.
- Ability and willingness to obtain and maintain a CDL Class B license and meet all DOT requirements, including drug and alcohol testing[LS2].
Benefits & Work Schedule:
- Full-time position with excellent benefits, generous PTO, and eligibility for 12 paid holidays.
- Monday–Friday, 7:30 am – 4:00 pm schedule, with occasional evening hours and minimal overtime as needed.
Hiring range: $19.00–$20.00 per hour, depending on experience.
